How to Use This Calculator

Measure your cat from the tip of the nose to the base of the tail and enter their length, along with your household cat count and floor layout. The calculator applies the 1.5× length rule, the 1.0× width rule, and the N+1 multi-cat distribution rule to produce customized setup specifications.

Key Factors That Affect the Result

• The 1.5× Length Rule: The interior length must be at least 1.5 times the cat's body length so they can dig, posture, and turn comfortably without touching the sides.
• The N+1 Rule: Always have one more box than the number of cats in the home (e.g., 2 cats = 3 boxes).
• Distributed Locations: Boxes clustered in the same room count as a single box to a cat. Spread them across different rooms or floors so sub-groups cannot monopolize access.
• Low Entry for Seniors: Arthritic and senior felines need a walk-in entry cut down to 2.5–3.5 inches to prevent painful joint inflammation upon entry.
• Litter Depth: Maintain 2 to 3 inches (5–7.5 cm) of fine, unscented clumping litter.
